My contribution to the dinner party was a bottle of vodka and a bag of uncooked potatoes. I felt like a Russian serf.

[The NV rings, with an anxious caller on the other side. The second he hears the sound of the tone stop, he's quick to speak. His breath is lapsed. One could almost hear the very fluttering of his heart whilst the cinders crackle in the background.]
